Here is a list of some things to know regarding what will and will not work in the Hamilton, Burlington and Niagara area.

administrative Offices: Offices are closed on Friday and Monday.

Licensing Services and Regulations: The waiting line for the license and bylaws will be closed on Friday and Monday. Service will resume on Tuesday.

Green Bin, Garbage and Recycling: No group on Good Friday. Friday pickup will occur on Saturday (April 20). Monday will be a normal collection day. (April 22) The city says all items must be on the curb by 7 a.m., and community recycling centers and transit stations will be closed Friday and Monday.

HSR bus: Buses will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Friday and the usual schedule on Monday.

GO Transit: Trains and buses operate on a Sunday schedule, on Fridays and Sundays.

ATS Darts: The service will operate with holiday service hours on Friday and Monday. DARTS subscription flights, excluding dialysis, are canceled for Friday and Monday. ATS customer service will also be closed on Friday and Monday.

Ontario operates: The program, including special support, will be closed on Friday and Monday. Phone service will resume on Tuesday.

Recreation centers: Closed on Friday and Monday.

Hamilton Civic Museums: Dundoorn National Historic Site, Hamilton Military Museum and Hamilton Steam and Technology Museum will be closed Friday and Monday.

Hamilton Tourism Visitor Information Center: Closed from Friday to Monday.

Hamilton Public Library: All HPL branches are closed on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.

social services: All Ontario Works, Special Support, and Housing Services offices will be closed Friday and Monday.

Senior positions: Closed on Friday and Sunday. Top clubs will operate revised program schedules from Friday through Monday.

Squares: Closed for public software Friday, Sunday and Monday.

animal services: Closed Good Friday, Sunday and Easter.

Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Mount Hope: Open Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Easter Monday closed.

Government offices: Local government such as city council, municipal offices and utilities will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Administrative services: Services including parks, roads and forests will be closed on Friday and Monday. Only defrosting and urgent services will be provided.

Animal shelter and control: Closed all weekend, from Friday to Monday. The emergency can be called at 1-888-264-3135.

Halton County Crime Court: Closed on Friday and Monday.

Free parking: Available Friday and Monday in the heart of downtown in the municipal squares, on the street and in the parking garage, however, the waterfront parking (east and west) does not offer free parking on public holidays. Parking exceptions are required for overnight parking on city streets and for a period of more than five hours. Visit burlington.ca/parkingexemptions For more.

Burlington Transit: Transit will operate on a Sunday holiday schedule. The downtown transit station, specialized dispatch and management office will be closed on April 15. Monday is a regular schedule.

Government offices: City halls, the institutional center and administrative offices are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Parks, recreation and culture services: All administrative offices were closed on 15 and 18 April.

Community Centers: All Seniors Centers and Playgrounds will be closed or opening hours will be reduced on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.

St. Catharines Museum; Welland Channels Centre: Both facilities will be closed on Good Friday but the rest of the long weekend will be open between 9am-5pm

St. Catharines Transit; Crossing Niagara Falls: Both services will operate according to the Good Friday holiday schedule.

Welland Transit: There is no day or evening service on Fridays.

Canada Post: The outlets are closed on Friday and Monday.

Grocery stores: Major grocery stores like Fortinos, Metro and Fresh Co. will be closed. and No Frills on Friday and Sunday.

Drug Mart shoppers: Many locations will open on April 15 and 18, but not all. Easter hours can be seen on Shopper sitemap.

Moles: Most major malls in Hamilton, Burlington, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but open on Easter Sunday.

However, there are exceptions to shopping malls designated by the county as tourist attractions including Retailers in Yorkville, Downtown Yonge, Queens Quay West, the Distillery District, and in Niagara Falls.

Open on Friday and Sunday:

  • Outlet at Niagara Falls: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • CF Toronto Eaton Center: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Toronto Premium Outlets at Halton Hills: Open Fridays 9:30am-7pm Sundays 11am-7pm
  • Pacific Mall in Toronto: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Walmart: Most Walmarts in GTHA will be closed, but the Niagara Falls Supercentre on Oakwood Drive will be open Friday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.


beer shop: Stores will be closed On both Good Friday and Easter.

LCBO: Stores will be closed on Friday and Sunday.

Tourist destinations

Niagara Falls: Most Niagara Falls attractions will operate on Fridays and Sundays, including the Niagara Parks Power Station, Trek Behind the Falls, the Botanical Gardens, the Butterfly Garden, and all of the parks, nature centers, and gardens. However, some heritage sites such as McKenzie Printery, Whirlpool Aero Cars, Niagara City Crews and McFarland House will be closed. Also, some dining venues such as Whirlpool Restaurant and Legends On The Niagara will be closed.

Toronto: Most Toronto attractions will be open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, including:

  • Ripley’s Aquarium (10am-6pm Ticket purchase required).
  • Toronto Zoo (9:30 AM – 2 PM tickets required).
  • Art Gallery of Ontario (generally closed on Mondays but open for Family Day starting at 10:30 AM, ticket purchases required).
  • Ontario Science Center (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tickets required).
  • Royal Ontario Museum (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets required).
